Science Center of Iowa is one of the first interactive centers in the world, providing a new learning center that features programs and firsthand exhibits. They first started their journey in October 1970 at Greenwood-Ashworth Park as a Junior League of Des Moines. In 1986, it was renamed as SCI, and since then, they have been inspiring generations of future inventors and originators.
The Science Center of Iowa is a lifelong learning center, which is currently located at the heart of Downtown Des Moines. They provide visitors with powerful learning tools and interactive experiences for all ages. The center is great for kids as there are many activities they can enjoy and that will keep them engaged while introducing them to science. The exhibits engage kids and parents alike and provide opportunity for learning as a family.
Apart from exhibits, SCI has many exciting places like star theater, Blank IMAX Dome Theater, the Food Chain Café, gift store and even SCI's Preschool. You can experience the big picture in the Blank IMAX Dome Theater. The theater has a six-story dome-shaped screen that wraps and provides a larger field view from all sides. The sound system is awesome that lets you hear everything with crystal clarity. Children experience a uniquely immersed movie experience in this theater.
Right now, SCI is offering a family night every second Friday of the month, where non-members can get a taste of SCI and IMAX theater for just $5. It is a fun and special event where you can experience IMAX with the entire family.
