Des Moines Earth Day Tour is Action Packed

Celebrate the environment at the Downtown Earth Day Tour in Des Moines.

To honor our planet, Principal Financial Group is collaborating with the Science Center of Iowa and the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden to provide free admission to the two attractions from 11 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Earth Day, April 22. Spend the day learning about conservation, pollution, recycling, and more.

The Principal Riverwalk connects the three Earth Day event sites, and visitors are encouraged the walk or bike the short distance between them, or to hop aboard a pedicab. Along the length of the trail, participate in a family-friendly scavenger hunt.

Science Center of Iowa:

Bring your own exhibit to be a part of Collector’s Corner, a mini-exhibit that allows the public to share, trade and display their best discoveries from nature.

Explore “Wild Music,” a traveling, nature-themed exhibit.

Meet with local conservation organizations to learn about how to reduce your carbon footprint.

Use the Science Center’s bicycle valet that will park your bike for free.

Iowa River Revival at the Riverwalk Hub:

Enjoy a refreshing beverage while overlooking the Des Moines River.

Learn about dam mitigation and river conservation with the Iowa River Revival team.

Learn about water conservation from conservation groups, including the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Environmental Law and Policy Center.

Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden:

Explore plant collections from all over the world in the Botanical Center’s indoor and outdoor gardens.

Create a take-home pollinator planting.

Meet with organizations, including the Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge, Polk County Conservation, and the Metro Waste Authority, to grow your knowledge of plant and animal conservation.
