Blank Park Zoo's Zooktoberfest

People from all age groups are going to love to visit the Blank Park Zoo in Iowa. It is spread on an area of 49 acres, out of this land; approximately 22 acres have been used specially for animal facilities or exhibits. Currently, the Blank Park Zoo comprises of 1,484 different animal specimens and 104 animal species.

The underlying aim of the Blank Park Zoo is to inspire gratitude in the minds of the people towards nature and all its elements through education, conservation, and recreation.

One can explore the animals at the Blank Park Zoo whilst learning fun facts. The animals include Egyptian Fruit Bat, Red Panda, Two-toed Sloth, Black-headed Heron, Golden Headed Tamarin, Harbor Seal, California Sea Lion, etc.

Another fun thing to do is watch and experience various exhibits including camel rides, train rides, carousel rides, safari grill, flamingos, penguins, and so much more.

 

With regards to photography of the animals is permitted and in fact encouraged here. However for commercial photography, which will be used for publication, economic or other gain would require prior written consent of the Blank Park Zoo Foundation.

The Blank Park Zoo also hosts many events, such as parties, weddings, MICE and so on. The Zoo features after hours exhibit rentals, pavilions, rental rooms, and private animal programs as well. The event would surely be a one of a kind experience. The zoo also offers many concessions to its members. For instance the ZOOKTOBERFEST is free for zoo members and costs about $7 for Non-Members. This fest is an Oktoberfest twist on Zoo Brew!

The Zoo gates will open at 5:30 PM and the festivities continue until 8:00 PM. The food arrangements will be carried out by the Zoo’s Safari Grill, which will be handled by Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse. Their Zoo Brew Facebook page has all the latest updates on the Grill feature and Zooktoberfest!

They have also announced that the first 750 guests will receive a special Zooktoberfest koozie! One will get to check free samples of Woodchuck Pumpkin Cider, Sam Adams Oktoberfest, Newcastle Werewolf, and Jack-o-traveler Pumpkin. And to go along with the samples, on must visit the pretzel necklace making station. The Omaha based Barry Boyce Band will be performing a wide variety of ethnic music which will feature some old school German, Polish and Czech polkas.

The three-man band features Barry Boyce on piano accordion, button accordion and vocals. It would not be Zooktoberfest without the animals of Blank Park Zoo. Owing to the early sunset in September, the Zoo’s animals will be outdoors until 6:30 PM for the safety of the animals and the keepers. However the Discovery Center will be open till 8:00 PM for people to visit the Zoo’s aquarium, birds and reptiles. One will also have the chance to meet several of the Zoo’s small critters and furry friends that are used for education all around the state and at the Zoo.

German beer, live music, Zoo animals, fun with friends –Zooktoberfest will be the Oktoberfest event of the fall! Zooktoberfest is for adults 21 and over! So come and visit this place to experience it all!

October-April: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

May - September: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The Zoo is usually closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.

Open & Closed exhibits subject to the weather, animal health issues or minor maintenance, there are chances of changes in the regular schedule. So it would be better for one to check up before deciding on visiting the zoo.

Entry Fees

To visit the zoo, children below the age of 2 are given free entry, whereas those between 3 to 12 years have to pay $6.00. Adults from the age of 13 to 64 have to pay $11.00, however Senior Citizens who are either 65 years old or above have to simply pay $9.00 to gain entrance into the zoo.
