A Blooming Good Time in Ames!

Ring in spring at the 8th annual Brunnier in Bloom! A great way to get the family out of the house Easter weekend, Brunnier in Bloom is a fun and entertaining weekend for all. This is a wonderful event where guests can enjoy pairings of beautiful art and fabulous flowers, as well as take part in a raffle, bid in a silent auction and enjoy live music. And it’s free!

From March 25th through March 27th floral designers and garden clubs from across the Ames community will show off their beautiful floral displays; all of which are inspired by works of art in the Brunnier Art Museum at Iowa State University in Ames.

Adding to the excitement, Des Moines’ favorite ukulele band Britches and Hose will be rocking in opening night.  Raffle and silent auction items have been donated by several local businesses including Portobello Road, Raygun, Massage Heights, Reiman Gardens, the Iowa State Center, Stomping Grounds, Grandma’s Attic, Creative Spirits Ames, Chocolaterie Stam, the Iowa State Book Store and more. All proceeds from this event support University Museums’ educational programming.

Judges will announce the 2016 winners on opening night at about 7:45pm. This year’s judges include Ann-Marie Fiore, Professor and Associate Chair of the Apparel Events and Hospitality Management Department at Iowa State; Michael Morain, Des Moines Register Arts Reporter; and Bronwyn Beatty-Hansen, Ames City Council member.

Opening night, otherwise known as Flowers After Hours, is on Friday, March 25th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Can’t make it on Friday? Fear not! Brunnier in Bloom will continue from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday with the Weekend Showcase featuring children’s activities and voting on the People’s Choice arrangement.

All of the activities during this flower-filled weekend are free and open to the public. Visitors will also receive one half-off admission pass to Reiman Gardens for the same weekend. Free parking is available north and south of the Scheman Building.

After another Iowa winter we know everyone is ready to enjoy flowers, spring, or just any excuse to get out of the house. Brunnier in Bloom is perfect for all three. Be sure to like our Facebook page to keep up with the latest Brunnier in Bloom happenings!
