The Italians know how to prepare elaborate dishes with simple high-quality ingredients. Italian cuisine generally consists of only four to eight ingredients. It might surprise visitors that Iowa offers tempting Italian cuisine; however, the knowledgeable locals are impressed. One or more of these three Italian restaurants in Iowa are sure to prove to be an outstanding choice for a family dinner, reunion with friends, romantic date night, or wedding reception.
- Baratta's Italian Restaurant: The restaurant offers delicious Italian cuisine in Des Moines, Iowa. Baratta’s specializes as an Italian event venue and caterer; however, offers a reasonably priced family dinner menu. Families may choose from baked cavatelli, mostaccioli, penne alfredo pasta with chicken, pizza, pollo penne, and more. The restaurant started from humble beginnings as a small grocery store owned by the Baratta family in the 1950’s. Curt and Lisa Kruger along with Joe Gatto purchased the building in 1993 and kept the Baratta name. The three opened an Italian restaurant in the facilities serving family recipes. Besides an impressive wine list, the restaurant offers appetizers, such as focaccia bread and homemade ravioli. The menu includes a wide selection of entrees from pork chops to sirloin.
- Baroncini Ristorante: For a romantic dinner date with that special someone, Baroncini Ristorante is a splendid choice. The authentic Italian restaurant, located on Linn Street in Iowa City, offers contemporary fine Italian cuisine. Barconcini boasts a nice selection of wines. The prestigiously trained Chef Baroncini, selects only fresh, local and seasonal ingredients for every entre, side, appetizer or dessert. The Ravioloni Farciti Con Tartufo E Ricotto is highly recommended, which is ravioli stuffed with truffle and ricotto cheese, topped with grated parmesan and a butter sage sauce. The dinner date will be a memorable one topped off with Tiramisu Avvolto Nel Cioccolato, which translates to mascarpone cream with lady fingers dipped in espresso and vanilla sauce.
- Biaggi's Ristorante Italiano: A great place to gather with friends in a comfortable surrounding with great food is Biaggi’s Ristorante Italiano. A bottle of wine from the extensive list at Biaggi’s is an excellent starting choice. Whether diners are in the mood for pasta, pizza, seafood or steak, Biaggi’s is sure to please. Biaggi’s has rapidly expanded to twenty-two locations in ten states nationwide since originally opening the first location in 1999. Three locations in Iowa include Cedar Rapids, Davenport and West Des Moines.
