It’s time to grab the wine glass lanyard once again as Harvest Festival in downtown Clear Lake is this Saturday, October 4. Taking on its 10th year, the Harvest Festival has become more than just a fun family afternoon to include wine tasting from various Iowa vineyards, games like a pumpkin rolling contest (Think it’s easy to roll a pumpkin in a straight line? Think again!) and an arts and crafts market to find your perfect harvest decorations. With live entertainment, a huge list of vendors, and games for all ages, this event is great for a girl’s day out, family outing, or even a first date!
For the wine (with a few beer vendors as well) consumers, Harvest Festival is a great way to try, fall in love with, and buy Iowa Wines. To get your day started, be sure to pre-register for a 10th Anniversary Souvenir Bag. For $23 you will receive gifts from Clear Lake businesses and a souvenir wine glass to use for the samplings. With only 1,000 bags available, they always sell out. They can be purchased in person at the Clear Lake Chamber Office, on the website, or by phone with credit or debit card (MasterCard, Visa and Discover only). And the go and try the wines at the various booths located down and around Main Ave. Be sure to vote for your favorite wine – a winner for various categories will be chosen, including an overall favorite. It’s a great compliment to the winery and a fun way to see if your pallet matches other winos.
If wine isn’t your thing, don’t worry – there’s plenty of other things to find for entertainment. Be sure to get there early, market opens at 9am, to get the best selection – homemade goodies will long be gone if you think you can just meander in later on. Also included on Main Avenue is a homemade salsa contest. If you’re a cooker, be sure to register your salsa before noon. If you’re a taster, your buds are in for a treat as a wide variety of choices come in for this contest. There are mild, medium, hot, and a special category of “etc” to try from. Contest runs from noon – 2pm. Great at making crafts? Head over to Larson’s Mercantile for a Make & Take Craft starting at 1pm. Or take a ride on the Main Street Trolley to see the beautiful Clear Lake changing seasons. It’ll be a day you and friends will be talking about so much your other friends will insist they’re invited next year.
