Octagon Art Festival Celebrates 45th Anniversary in downtown Ames

FREE!

Now that I have your attention, as many as 14,000 people are expected to visit downtown Ames for the annual Octagon Art Festival on Sunday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You should plan to be one of them!

“This is the 45th Anniversary of the Octagon Art Festival which is a great milestone for a festival organized by a small non-profit art center,” said Heather Johnson, Executive Director of the Octagon Art Festival.

Approximately 100 juried artists from 12 states, some from as far away as Florida, Arizona, and West Virginia, will fill the Main Street Cultural District with a sea of artistic creations to fit any budget.   There will also be a variety of live music offerings and performing arts will be presented throughout the day.

“This is not only a wonderful, family-friendly, and free event,” said Cindy Hicks, Executive Director of the Main Street Cultural District. “It is an event that showcases our beautiful downtown.  Ames is very lucky to have the Octagon Center for the Arts and this great festival they put on every year.”

Food vendors will be on-hand offering a wide selection of cuisine to cater anyone’s appetite and children’s art activities will be available in front of the Octagon Center for the Arts along the 400 block of Douglas.

“The Octagon Art Festival is the perfect place to get an early start on shopping for holiday gifts,” Johnson said. “Come find a set of cozy mugs, a perfect pair of earrings, a painting to fill the blank wall –there’s something for everyone at the Octagon Art Festival!”

You can find out more information about the festival, including a map of where artists will be located, at www.octagonarts.org or follow the Octagon Center on Facebook by clicking here.

Are you interested in being a part of this great event by volunteering an hour or two at the Octagon Art Festival? 200 volunteers help make the Octagon Art Festival a wonderful experience for the artists and festival visitors. Some volunteer activities include assisting artists unpack and pack booths, assisting with the children’s craft area, barricade monitors and booth sitters for artists. Anyone interested in volunteering to fill two-hour shifts during the festival, please call 232.5331 or email membership@octagonarts.org for more info.
