“They make the BEST deviled eggs in the WORLD!” my husband exclaimed when I brought home a copy of Ivy Bake Shoppe’s cookbook. I was a bit miffed because I thought MY recipe was perfectly fine. At his persistence I bought the ingredients and proceeded to make them . . .
DRATS! I hate it when my husband is right. My recipe took flight to the garbage. And Ivy’s Deviled Egg recipe has permanent status in my collection. And it has become standard fare at our football tailgating gatherings.
After attending a business meeting in Fort Madison, several of us wanted to seize the opportunity to visit the infamous Ivy Bake Shoppe & Café. Knowing how good the Deviled Egg recipe was, my expectations were very high. And those expectations were exceeded.
The Ivy Bake Shoppe & Café in Fort Madison is a delight and literally a treat to visit. We gathered at the front counter like little kids in a candy store. We carefully perused the selection, while we wanted at least one of each, we limited ourselves to a couple of giant chocolate chip cookies, mint chocolate brownies (with just the right amount of mint), toffee bars, lemon poppy seed muffins, apple cake and rhubarb brunch cake. Curiously, no one offered to share goodies from their sacks on the journey home.
They are open for breakfast/lunch/dessert, Monday – Saturday from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm and located in downtown Fort Madison along Avenue G. Take a peek at their menus or try one of their recipes.
For my next visit, I’m planning on having lunch. I’ve heard they have delicious food!
