He got hooked on the sport as a young child listening with his grandfather to radio broadcasts of Wimbledon matches. His love of tennis led to a dream of building a grass court on his family’s farm south of Charles City.

After decades of dreaming, Mark and his wife Denise decided to go for it. In 2003 the All Iowa Lawn Tennis Club (AILTC), Iowa’s first (and only) grass tennis court opened.

Grass tennis courts are a rarity. In fact, less than 1% of tennis courts in the country are grass. So it’s no surprise that the AILTC grabbed some national attention. Or that players from across the U.S. have come to play on the court.

Want to give it a try? Simply email Mark to make a reservation. There’s no fee to play.
