Local pride on display at Iowa’s 99 County Fairs
Take a minute and think about the last time you were at the fair. What comes to mind? Delicious smells? Bright lights and the whizzing action of the midway? Are you now craving something deep fried? Us too! Iowa’s fabulous county fairs start this week!
Starting this week and continuing through September, more than 90 counties host their own fair.
What can you expect?
- See local 4-H members show the livestock they’ve been lovingly tending all winter long.
- Watch a local musician or the local motor sports races.
- Eat your first (and maybe second and third) funnel cake of the summer.
- Look over beautiful work from the area quilters, woodworkers, photographers or artists.
You’ll be amazed at how fast the day flies by enjoying local sights and flavors!
With so many counties, it can be hard to know where to start. Each fair has its own character and charm. But they all offer a welcoming atmosphere and home-grown, Iowa hospitality!
Insider Tips: If music is a big draw for you, visit the Jones County Fair; this event brings in big names in country music. The Clay County Fair is known for hosting the largest exhibit of farm equipment of any fair. And Sioux County Fair goers can witness the mouth-watering annual BBQ Battle.
